At Yuma Proving Ground earlier this year, the U.S. Army selected Northrop Grumman Corporation™s (NYSE: NOC) Highly Adaptable Multi-Mission Radar (HAMMR) to demonstrate the multi-mission capability of the 2017 counter-rocket, artillery and mortar (C-RAM.)
HAMMR incorporates an Active Electronically Scanned Array fighter radar mounted on a ground vehicle or towable trailer to provide continuous 360-degree protection against multiple ground and airborne targets, according to a statement by Northrop Grumman.
It is designed to allow ground soldiers on-the-move to maintain their operational pace without sacrificing protection.
HAMMR provides situational awareness, counter-fire operations, air defense, early warning and airspace management capabilities.
The system detected and identified Groups I and II unmanned aerial systems during a test, providing real-time intelligence to the operator.
HAMMR is also able to connect to the Army™s Forward Area Air Defense command and control system.
