Philip Kenul, a former director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration‘s homeland security office and head of the NOAA Aircraft Operations Center, has been named a consultant of ECS‘ science and engineering division.
The retired NOAA Corps rear admiral will provide research, strategic development and consulting support in his new position, the company said Monday.
He will work closely with NOAA™s Office of Marine and Aviation Operations in efforts to formulate policies meant to facilitate agency-independent unmanned aircraft system operations.

Kenul piloted the P-3 maritime surveillance aircraft to gather meteorological data as a NOAA hurricane hunter. He currently chairs ASTM International™s Committee F38 on Unmanned Aircraft Systems.
