The U.S. Navy is seeking prototype proposals from members of the Undersea Technology Innovation Consortium to support the service branch’s research and development efforts associated with maritime operations and undersea warfare.
A solicitation notice posted Wednesday says the Naval Undersea Warfare Center intends to issue other transaction authority agreements through UTIC for the rapid development of technology platforms intended to address current and future NUWC requirements.
Subject areas under the program include autonomous unmanned surface vessel operation, electro-optic system simulation, 3D visualization, warhead electronics subsystems, sensor technology, surveillance operations and artificial intelligence/machine learning-based command platforms.
According to the notice, the Navy launched the prototyping initiative to encourage non-traditional defense contractors to participate in government efforts to modernize systems and components supporting the armed forces.
The Navy did not specify a response deadline for the notice.
UTIC is comprised of industry, academic and nonprofit entities that aim to help government customers build undersea and maritime domain systems.
