Navy Adds Northrop to MQ-25 Carrier UAS Risk Reduction Program

Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has secured a potential one-year, $35.8 million contract from the U.S. Navy to implement risk reduction efforts for the future MQ-25 unmanned carrier aviation air system.

The Defense Department said Wednesday the company will work to refine concepts and develop trade space ahead of the engineering and manufacturing development phase of the MQ-25 program.

The Navy obligated the full contract amount at the time of award from its fiscal 2016 research, development, test and evaluation funds.

Northrop will perform work at various locations in California through October 2017.

Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) were also awarded separate contracts in September to conduct MQ-25 risk reduction activities for the military branch.

General Atomics will also provide similar services to the Navy under a contract awarded in early October.
