NASA has issued a request for proposals for a potential five-year, $476 million program to acquire Earth observation data derived from constellations of small satellites operated by commercial entities.
The space agency plans to conduct the Commercial SmallSat Data Acquisition program as a full and open competition with an on-ramp mechanism to provide new vendors and awardees an opportunity to propose new data products and compete, according to a solicitation notice published Tuesday.
Data products to be procured through the CSDA multiple-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract include data sets, associated metadata and ancillary information; data latency; data cadence; area coverage; and data usage policy.
The agency plans to award the IDIQ contract by July and will require offerors to comply with non-negotiable end-user license agreements to enable the shareability and dissemination of commercial data with other agencies and partners.
In September 2022, NASA asked industry stakeholders to provide feedback on the proposed CSDA contract.
