Cubic Defense has added Mike Byrne to its Air Combat Training leadership team.
What Is Mike Byrne’s New Role at Cubic Defense?
Tammy Schmidt, who was appointed as Cubic Defense’s vice president and general manager of advanced training solutions in November, said in a LinkedIn post Monday that Byrne will serve as the company’s vice president of business development.
“Mike brings operational credibility, a deep connection with the customer, and commitment to growth that will accelerate our Air Combat Training portfolio,” Schmidt added. “He understands what it takes to deliver on our mission of advancing training, preparing warfighters, and planning today for tomorrow’s threats.”
Who Is Mike Byrne?
Byrne brings to the company over 30 years of service to the U.S. Air Force and over two decades of senior leadership experience.
Prior to joining Cubic Defense, Byrne served as vice president of business development at The Rockhill Group.
His private-sector career includes multiple senior business development roles supporting defense, aerospace and national security customers.
Byrne previously held leadership positions at CAE USA and CAE Mission Solutions, where he led business development efforts across command and control, strike, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission areas.
He also spent more than four years at BAE Systems as a senior business development manager focused on cross-domain and cybersecurity technologies for the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Space Force and the intelligence community.
His military service included senior operational and command roles across the Air Force, including vice commander of 17th Air Force/Air Forces Africa and vice commander of the 20th Fighter Wing.
He is a former U.S. Air Force Thunderbird pilot, a background that aligns closely with Cubic Defense’s focus on advanced air combat training and operational realism.
Byrne also served as the Air Force chair to the Marine Corps University’s Marine Corps War College, where he instructed in national security, joint warfare, leadership and ethics.
He holds a Master of Strategic Studies from Air University, a Master of Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University.
