Consulting firm McAleese & Associates has released a report on key takeaways from the speech of Ellen Lord, defense undersecretary for acquisition and sustainment, at an Atlantic Council event held Monday.
Lord, a 2019 Wash100 recipient, called on the U.S. government to come up with a whole-of-government strategy to deploy a 5G network backed by industry and the investment community amid the increasing national security threat posed by the Chinese 5G network infrastructure.

She cited the need to embrace the 5G technology to avoid any technological overmatch, Jim McAleese, founder and principal at McAleese & Associates and a 2019 Wash100 winner, wrote in the report.
We need to be secure ¦ and have a self-healing network, she said. In 5G, there will be huge amounts of data moving ¦ We have to use communications networks ¦ We need to make sure that others are not listening in.
