Consulting firm McAleese & Associates has issued a report that offers a preview of potential topics that military leaders could discuss at the three-day Air Force Association conference in Maryland.
The firm said U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Goldfein could deliver a message on multi-domain operations at the AFA event, while USAF Secretary Heather Wilson could discuss the need to boost end-strength, counter near-peer rivals and pursue light-attack aircraft.
Wilson said in her speech Monday at AFA’s Air, Space and Cyber Conference that the service has 312 operational squadrons and plans to add 74 new squadrons by 2030 to counter threats, the Air Force reported Monday.
She mentioned the military branchs plans to eliminate maintainer shortage by the end of the year and offered updates on the service’s force readiness efforts and space operations.
More than 75 percent of our force is combat ready and were moving the whole force to higher levels of readiness with actions that will play out over the next several years, she added.
The McAleese & Associates report also cited the plan of Ellen Lord, undersecretary for acquisition and sustainment at the Defense Department, to incentivize contractors through the use of performance-based or progress payments.
