Before joining Atlassian, Graviss spent almost two decades serving in the public sector. During this time, the executive gained valuable experience aiding federal agencies and organizations to achieve their objectives by leveraging technological advancements. Through his leadership, these organizations enhanced their operational efficiency and decision-making.
From 2020 until his resignation in February, Graviss served as the first-ever chief data and artificial intelligence officer of the U.S. Department of State. In this role, he oversaw the department’s Center for Analytics with a focus on developing and implementing AI strategies and data governance and technology modernization efforts.
Graviss also served as chief data officer at the Citizenship and Immigration Services agency from 2018 to 2020. Before that, he was the director of the Transportation Security Administration for almost three years. The executive also held the director position at the Customs and Border Protection agency, where he worked for five years. He started his public service career in 2007 as a program manager at the Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office within the Department of Homeland Security.
