Amazon President and CEO Andy Jassy announced the leadership transition in a message to AWS staff published Tuesday.
Selipsky will step down after leading Amazon’s cloud computing arm for three years to spend more time with his family.
According to Jassy, Garman started at Amazon as an intern in 2005 and joined the company the following year as a full-time product manager at AWS.
Garman’s career at the company included time serving as general manager for Amazon EC2 and vice president of AWS Compute Services, according to his LinkedIn profile.
The Amazon chief executive said Garman will bring to the role his skills and experiences as a product leader and problem solver and described the latter as “one of the better learners” he has encountered.
“Matt knows our customers and business as well as anybody in the world, and has senior leadership experience on both the product and demand generation sides,” Jassy added.
Selipsky started his career at Amazon in 2005 as VP of marketing, sales and support for AWS. After more than a decade, he moved to Tableau Software to serve as the company’s CEO.
Jassy commended and thanked Selipsky for his contributions as chief executive of AWS.
Under Selipsky’s leadership, AWS reached an annual revenue of $100 billion and launched several generative artificial intelligence services, including Amazon Q and Amazon Bedrock.
