Mark Whitney, formerly chief operating officer of AECOM™s (NYSE: ACM) nuclear and environment strategic business unit, has been named general manager and executive vice president of the unit.

He succeeds the retiring Todd Wright to oversee the segment™s daily operations, business development efforts and strategic initiatives, AECOM said Monday.

Whitney will also lead the company™s operations and administrative support work with local and international government clients such as the U.S. Energy Department and the U.K. Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

John Vollmer

John Vollmer, president of management services group at AECOM, said Whitney™s experience as the business unit™s COO and tenure with DOE would support the company™s growth efforts in the nuclear market.

Whitney is a 20-year nuclear industry veteran who joined AECOM in 2016 after serving as principal deputy assistant secretary at DOE™s office of environmental management.

He held leadership roles at DOE™s National Nuclear Security Administration such as interim principal assistant deputy administrator for defense nuclear nonproliferation and assistant deputy administrator for nonproliferation and international security.
