MACOM Announces ENGIN-IC Acquisition

MACOM Technology Solutions has bought ENGIN-IC, a fabless semiconductor company based in Texas. The Lowell, Massachusetts-headquartered supplier of semiconductor products said Wednesday the acquisition will support its efforts to increase its market share.

Stephen Daly, president and CEO of MACOM, welcomed the ENGIN-IC team to the company, saying that their expertise in monolithic microwave integrated circuits will enable the delivery of better customer support.

“ENGIN-IC’s exceptional wideband and high-efficiency MMIC and module design expertise will enable us to better support our mutual customers,” Daly commented.

Meanwhile, Stephen Nelson, chief technology officer at ENGIN-IC, highlighted joining MACOM’s efforts to become a leading provider of Gallium Nitride semiconductors.

“MACOM’s talented team and growth strategies align well with ENGIN-IC’s strengths, and we look forward to all that we can accomplish together,” Nelson said.

The cash-on-hand transaction is not expected to have a significant impact on MACOM’s near-term financial performance.

ENGIN-IC was co-founded by Nelson in 2014 to serve customers in the U.S. defense industry. In the past, the company has used small business innovative research contracts, Department of Defense research projects and custom integrated circuit development projects for defense prime contractors to expand its operations and build its products.

The company offers over 60 standard MMICs and customized circuits such as high-efficiency power amplifiers, time delay units, integrated transmit and receive chips, mixers and modulators.

The company has facilities in Plano, Texas, and San Diego, California.
