Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) reportedly will manufacture three more GPS III Follow-On military communications satellites under a $737 million contract option from the U.S. Space Force , SpaceNews reported Thursday.
USSF ordered space vehicles 15, 16 and 17 as part of a potential $7.2 billion GPS IIIF fixed-price-type production contract the U.S. Air Force announced in September 2018.
The company was previously awarded a $511 million contract to build the 13th and 14th spacecraft and could produce as many as 22 satellites under the program.
GPS IIIF, which is based on Lockheed’s LM 2100 satellite bus, will include systems designed to support anti-jamming, search-and-rescue, nuclear detection detonation and geolocation functions.
