Lockheed Receives $102M Navy Submarine Sonar Contract Modification

The U.S. Navy has awarded Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) a $101.9 million modification to exercise options under a previously awarded contract for the procurement of acoustic detection sonar technology.

Lockheed’s rotary and mission systems business will provide technical Acoustic Rapid Commercial Off-the-Shelf Insertion systems along with pre-cable kits and A-RCI sonar engineering services under the modification, the Defense Department said Thursday.

A-RCI is designed to help the Navy detect submarine threats with acoustic technology.

The sonar uses an open architecture and works to integrate with Virginia-, Los Angeles-, Ohio- and Seawolf-class submarines.

DoD noted the obligated amount of $57 million at the time of award is from the Navy’s fiscal 2018 shipbuilding and conversion; research and development test and evaluation; and “other” procurement funds.

Work will occur through December 2018 in Manassas, Virginia, and Clearwater, Florida.
