Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has secured a $276 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to build and manufacture a software-defined sensor system designed to train aircrew for engagements against advanced X-band and C-band radar threats.
The company said Monday it will partner with SRC on the development of the Variable Aperture Digital Radar system, a distributed digital active electronically scanned array radar threat training system built to simulate a variety of adversary systems and training events.
The VADR design and production contract was awarded by the Air Force Advanced Range Threat System Variant 3 program office to support the service branch’s air defense training programs.
“ARTS-V3 enhances our product line and demonstrates that we are continuing to lead the way in next gen radar capability,” said Chandra Marshall, vice president of radar and sensor systems at Lockheed.
Work will occur in Syracuse and Owego New York and Clearwater, Florida.
