The U.S. Navy has awarded Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) a $138.8M contract modification to further develop a pilot training software to help align the F-35 fighter jet's aviation system with ongoing development efforts.
Contract work includes testing and recertification for “dual-capable” F-35 jets as development continues for Block 4 capabilities on behalf of the U.S. Air Force, Marine Corps and Navy as well as non-Department of Defense entities, the DoD said Tuesday.
The modification expands the scope of the original contract awarded in 2018 to include continued development of the F-35 training device software.
Naval Air Systems Command will obligate $4.6M in fiscal year 2020 Air Force research, development, test and evaluation funds, $3.3M in FY 2020 Navy RDT&E funds and $1.1M in non-DoD participant funds at the time of award.
Fifty-one percent of work under the modification will take place in Orlando, Florida, and the remaining 49 percent in Fort Worth, Texas, through June 2024.
