Lockheed Martin has received a potential $214.4 million contract from the U.S. Army to support the recapitalization of the Multiple Launch Rocket System, or MLRS, into the M270A2 configuration.

The Department of Defense said Friday the Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama is funding the cost-plus-fixed-fee, firm-fixed-price contract using the service’s fiscal 2025 missile procurement funds, fiscal 2025 foreign military sales funds and fiscal 2024 cooperative partner funds.

Learn more about the service’s latest contracting opportunities and hear experts discuss modernization imperatives, force structure optimization, national security missions and more at the Potomac Officers Club’s 2025 Army Summit on June 18.

Work will occur in Arkansas and Texas through Dec. 30, 2030.

Multiple Launch Rocket System Recapitalization Effort

Lockheed is under contract to recapitalize M270 MLRS into the M270A2 configuration for the U.S. Army, Italy and the U.K.

Upgrades to the launchers include new engines, new improved armored cabs, improved system components, upgraded transmissions and new common fire control systems. These upgrades will enable the launcher to fire next-generation munitions, including Precision Strike Missile and Extended-Range Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System.

MLRS is a highly mobile automatic platform that can fire surface-to-surface rockets from the M270 family of launcher weapons systems. It employs a shoot-and-scoot capability designed to improve crew and platform survivability in high threat environments.
