The Defense Innovation Unit and the U.S. Navy have selected L3Harris Technologies (NYSE:LHX) to build and test an underwater drone for the service branch.
L3Harris said Wednesday it will provide the Iver4-900 unmanned undersea vehicle as part of an other transaction agreement to support the Navy's Next Generation Small-Class Maritime Expeditionary Mine Countermeasures UUV program.
"The Iver4 is the culmination of many years of UUV development, customer feedback and application knowledge for military applications," said Daryl Slocum, vice president and general manager of unmanned maritime systems at L3Harris.
Slocum added the platform is designed to help address ExMCM and explosive ordnance disposal mission requirements.
The company will also supply a pair of field-replaceable modular payload sections such as synthetic and real aperture sonars as part of the OTA.
