L3Harris Secures $593M Navy Contract to Develop Shipboard EO/IR Sensor Tech

L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) has secured a potential $593 million contract to develop a passive sensor technology for the U.S. Navy’s shipboard surveillance, detection and cueing operations.

The company will initially provide engineering, manufacturing and development services to the branch’s Shipboard Panoramic Electro-Optic/Infrared program, the Department of Defense said Tuesday.

Under the SPEIR contract, L3Harris will also supply the Navy with low-rate initial production units and spares.

The branch noted in May 2021 solicitation documents it would ask the selected vendor to produce three engineering development models, one partial system for an environmental test and two full systems for use in formal qualification and land-based testing efforts.

According to the documents, the contractor would manufacture up to 21 SPEIR LRIP units and 21 wide and narrow fields of view components of the system after the EMD phase.

Naval Sea Systems Command received one offer for the program through a competitive solicitation and will obligate $11 million at the time of award.

The contract’s base performance period is valued at $205.9 million and slated to conclude in November 2025. Work would continue through March 2031 if the Navy exercises all options.
