L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) has received a contract to develop a prototype of wideband airborne high-frequency radio technology for the U.S. Air Force.
USAF selected the L3Harris Falcon offering for an industry competition that seeks a replacement for the service branch’s AN/ARC-190 radio, the company said Wednesday.
Falcon is designed to support space-based beyond-line-of-sight systems and facilitate data and voice communications in areas where satellite connectivity is limited.
The company intends for its technology to help airmen communicate information at a speed up to 10 times faster than existing ARC-190 radios. The radio will be equipped with an open architecture and encryption, interception and detection tools, as well as electronic counter-counter measures.
L3Harris was formed through a merger between defense companies Harris and L3 Technologies.
