A business unit of L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) has won a nine-year, $1.9 billion contract to provide contractor logistics support for Boeing-built (NYSE: BA) KC/KDC-10 in-air refueling aircraft flown by the U.S. Air Force.
The Defense Departmentsaid Wednesday L-3’s Vertex Aerospace business will operate and maintain base supply, perform aircraft maintenance and manage service bulletins and time compliance technical orders.
The Air Force received four offers for the contract.
L-3 relaunched the “Vertex Aerospace” name for its aerospace sustainment and support business that offers aviation services to military and government customers, ExecutiveBiz reported May 10.
DoD added the contract includes foreign military sales to the Netherlands, which involves KDC-10 support including remote aerial refueling operator system, labor, materials, tools, equipment, parts and transportation work, among others.
Work will occur at Travis Air Force Base in California, McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey and at facilities in Greensboro, North Carolina, and the Netherlands through June 30, 2025, DoD noted.
The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center obligated $4 million at the time of the award from fiscal 2016 operation and maintenance funds.
