Kenneth Braithwaite, former U.S. ambassador to Norway and a retired Navy rear admiral, has been confirmed as secretary of the service branch after he sailed through a Senate committee confirmation hearing earlier this month, Politico reported Thursday.
Senators approved Braithwaite by voice vote to succeed Richard Spencer, who was forced to resign in late 2019 amid disagreements between him and the White House over a Navy SEAL war crime investigation.
Braithwaite told Senate Armed Services Committee members at his confirmation meeting that he would prioritize efforts to address branch leadership challenges and reach the 355-ship fleet goal.
He was first commissioned as a naval aviator in 1986 and his Navy career included time as vice chief of information, principal Reserve liaison and adviser to the chief of information.
