Karman Space & Defense, a portfolio company of Dallas-based private equity firm Trive Capital, has acquired the patented MG Resin family of technologies from Cornerstone Research Group to expand its competencies and capabilities in integrated composite systems for defense and space applications.
CRG’s senior leadership team developed the MG family of resins to address the increasing demand for ultra-high temperature materials and designed a novel approach to producing high-strength, carbon-carbon components at temperatures above 1200 degrees Celsius, Trive said Wednesday.
“The MG Resin carbon-carbon technology, along with other CRG-developed resin systems, will serve as the launch point for Karman’s broader move into advanced material sciences,” said Karman CEO Tony Koblinski.
David Stinnett, a partner at Trive Capital, said the acquisition brings additional material science capabilities that would enable Karman to deliver vertically integrated composite systems and support original equipment manufacturers.
Monument Capital Partners advised CRG in the transaction. Haynes & Boone acted as legal counsel to Trive Capital.
