President Joe Biden has nominated John Sherman, acting chief information officer at the Department of Defense, to serve as full-time CIO at DOD.
Sherman has nearly 25 years of innovation and national security experience across DOD and the intelligence community leading modernization efforts in the areas of collaboration, cybersecurity and cloud computing, the White House said Thursday.
He previously served as the IC CIO and deputy director at the CIA’s Open Source Enterprise.
He spent seven years at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and led offices involved in analysis, collection, organizational strategy, homeland security and international affairs.
Sherman started his intelligence career as an imagery analyst in 1997. He went on to become a White House Situation Room duty officer and principal deputy national intelligence officer for military issues on the National Intelligence Council.
