He will work with the leadership team to explore acquisition and business expansion opportunities and refine approaches to support customer requirements in the defense sector, Sarcos said Thursday.
His appointment comes as the Utah-based robotics maker is preparing to roll out the Guardian XO exoskeleton and Guardian XT mobile robot offerings into the marketplace.
Geurts served as the Navy’s assistant secretary for research, development and acquisition from December 2017 to January 2021 and performed the duties of undersecretary at the military branch for six months prior to his retirement from the government.
He previously worked as acquisition executive and director of acquisition, technology and logistics at U.S. Special Operations Command.
“Given my experience with bringing innovative new technologies to the field, and doing so with speed, cost-effectiveness, and quality in focus, I believe I am well-positioned to help Sarcos scale its business as the company brings its robotics technologies to market for both the commercial and military sectors,” Geurts said.
