Iridium Gets $76M DISA Satcom Gateway Upgrade Support IDIQ; Scott Scheimreif Quoted

The Defense Information Systems Agency has awarded Iridium Communications (Nasdaq: IRDM) a potential five-year, $76 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to deliver critical improvements to the Pentagon™s satellite communications gateway.

The Gateway Evolution Contract calls for Iridium to perform software and hardware upgrades to facilitate continued operations with satcom capabilities and meet warfighting requirements, the company said Tuesday.

“With the completion of Iridium NEXT, new services and capabilities are constantly being designed and developed by Iridium and our ecosystem of partners,” said Scott Scheimreif, executive vice president of government programs at Iridium. “The GEC allows the U.S. government to upgrade their gateway as they see fit, in order to take advantage of these new capabilities, including those yet to be invented.

GEC is a follow-on to the Gateway Modernization Efforts contract, which helped the government make investments in order to leverage the Iridium NEXT satellite constellation, which provides voice, messaging, data, broadband, midband and narrowband services.
