India has signed $737 million contract to procure 145 BAE Systems Inc.-developed artillery guns through a foreign military sales transaction with the U.S. government, Defense News reported Wednesday.
Vivek Raghuvanshi writes the British defense contractor’s U.S. subsidiary will supply the M777A2 LW155 ultralight howitzers and set up an assembly integration and test facility in New Delhi that will be operated alongside Mahindra‘s defense systems arm.
Defense procurement officials in India approved a proposal in June to acquire $750 million worth of M777 Howitzer artillery guns with an estimated 120 out of 145 units to be assembled in the country.
India-based defense contractor Mahindra supported BAE in the assembly of 120 ultralight howitzers as well as another 25 guns to be delivered within the next three years.
