Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) has secured a potential seven-year, $1.51B contract modification to design and build a second vessel under the U.S. Navy’s LPD-17 Flight II amphibious ship program.
The award is for the detailed design and construction of Landing Platform Dock Class 31, which will be the 15th in the San Antonio class of amphibious transport dock ships, the Department of Defense said Friday.
DoD noted the Navy will obligate $532.1M at the time of award and the department expects work under the modification to be complete in February 2027.
The company was awarded $1.47B in March last year to carry out the LPD 30 construction project.
According to HII, the San Antonio-class ships are designed to ferry Marines, equipment and supplies for amphibious and expeditionary missions.
