Hughes Network Systems has unveiled a new manufacturing center in Germantown, Maryland, to house the production of satellite modems and terminals and the testing of private 5G technologies.
The EchoStar company said Friday the Hughes Manufacturing Facility is located in the Pinkney Innovation Complex for Science and Technology on the Montgomery College campus and provides 140,000 square feet of space for the manufacturing of Hughes HT3000W Jupiter system satellite modem and the Hughes HL1120W low Earth orbit satellite terminal.
The Hughes EXM facility will also serve as an incubation center for secure 5G networking applications designed for defense and enterprise applications.
“Our capabilities evolved from a long-ago startup in Rockville, Maryland, and we have grown into what is now the leading provider of broadband satellite services, products, and managed network solutions,” said Paul Gaske, chief operating officer at Hughes Network Systems.
“The EXM facility allows us to continue a proud tradition of designing and manufacturing leading edge products here in Maryland,” he added.
The new center employs 400 engineers, technicians and manufacturing staff and features advanced robotics systems to assist in hardware production.
Hughes is sponsoring the Potomac Officers Club’s 2024 5G Forum on May 22. Join the event to learn about how the responsible implementation of 5G plays a critical role in building a more secure and connected future for the U.S. Register here!
