Honeywell to Lead $243M Energy Savings Project at Tinker AFB Under ESPC

Honeywell (NYSE: HON) will lead a $243 million U.S. Air Force project to reduce energy consumption at a Tinker Air Force Base air logistics facility under an energy savings performance contract from the Defense Logistics Agency – Energy.

The company said Monday the 21-year deal is the Air Force’s largest ESPC and aims to generate approximately $626 million in energy and operational cost savings as well as cut consumption by 23 percent at the Oklahoma City – Air Logistics Complex.

John Rajchert, president of Honeywell’s building solutions business, said the project will also work to update Tinker AFB’s industrial operations and support U.S. sustainability goals.

Honeywell will work with the base, DLA Energy, Air Force Materiel Command headquarters and the Air Force Civil Engineer Center to perform OC-ALC production facility modifications.

The planned changes include two new 2,000-ton chillers, a distributed heat system, smart meters and LED lighting with wireless controls and are designed to prevent wasted ventilation, modernize cooling and wastewater treatment systems as well as limit and track the amount of energy used, among others.

Honeywell said it will also integrate new Tinker AFB buildings into the company-built Enterprise Buildings Integrator building management system and provide maintenance and other services in support of the implemented updates.

The company added the ESPC builds on a $19.1 million utility energy service contract the Air Force awarded in 2016.
