GSA, Uber Seek to Reduce Federal Travel Costs Under Rideshare BPA

The General Services Administration has awarded Uber a five-year blanket purchase agreement to provide ridesharing services for federal employees, military personnel and government contractors supporting mission-related activities worldwide.

GSA said Wednesday the BPA will help the federal government reduce travel costs and is part of the agency’s OneGov strategy, which seeks to centralize government procurement to offer federal agencies access to commercial platforms and services and discounted rates.

“We value Uber’s collaborative approach in working with GSA to create a bespoke agreement with attractive pricing that meets the broad needs of the federal government,” said Josh Gruenbaum, commissioner of GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service.

“This is an exciting first step, with more to come, to deliver compelling rideshare options for the federal workforce. GSA is streamlining common services, reducing duplication, and helping agencies focus on their core missions,” added Gruenbaum, a 2025 Wash100 Award recipient.

Enhancements to GSA’s Rideshare BPA With Uber for Business

In 2020, GSA awarded Uber a spot on a five-year, $810 million BPA for rideshare services.

In addition to expanded transportation access for federal contractors, the renewed agreement between GSA and Uber for Business features several enhancements, including giving U.S. federal employees and contractors access to Uber for Business for transportation services in more than 15,000 cities and 70 countries.

Through the new BPA, federal employees and contractors can use Uber for Business profiles for all rideshare activities, gain access to high-capacity vehicles and meet mission-support transportation needs using the Uber for Business platform.

“Our renewed partnership with the GSA will help government agencies simplify their travel and transportation needs,” said Andrew Macdonald, president and chief operating officer at Uber. “We’re paving the way for a future where integrated mobility, meal delivery, and fleet management can help transform the full range of government services.
