The General Services Administration has issued a request for proposals in search of a contractor to redevelop the federally-owned John A. Volpe National Transportation Systems Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
GSA said Wednesday it seeks a private developer that will be interested in designing and constructing a research facility for the U.S. Transportation Department within the 14-acre campus of the Volpe Center in exchange for ownership of a portion of that complex.
“The RFP is the next important step in providing a state-of-the-art facility for DOT while continuing to establish GSA™s important role as a catalyst for economic development in communities across the country, ” said GSA Administrator Denise Turner Roth.
The Volpe property, which is located approximately one mile from Boston’s central business district, features six buildings with a gross floor area of 375, 000 square feet, two surface parking lots and an open landscaped area.
GSA will accept bids for the federal property exchange contract within a 90-day period.
