General Dynamics’ (NYSE: GD) information technology business won a potential 10-year, $505M contract to provide managed services for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s weather supercomputing systems, G2Xchange FedCiv reported Feb. 13.
NOAA received two offers for the Weather and Climate Operational Supercomputing System II contract, which has a five-year base term, three option years and a two-year transition option.
The company will offer managed services to help NOAA process satellite and nonsatellite data, output data and high-performance computing applications under the single-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract. It will also provide primary and backup HPC systems, two facilities and associated support services.
WCOSS II covers services for HPC systems supporting NOAA’s oceanic and atmospheric models and is a follow-on to the WCOSS contract awarded to IBM (NYSE: IBM) in November 2011.
