The task order awarded by the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division is part of the Propulsor Demonstration Hardware indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, which includes the development and delivery of hardware and other key components for installation on the service’s nuclear-powered submarines, General Atomics said Tuesday.
“This task order involves the precision machining of components to extremely tight tolerances and demanding material specifications, and the delivery of approximately ten thousand pounds of hardware that will affix the Propulsor Bearing Support Structure, already provided by GA-EMS, to the submarine,” said Scott Forney, president of General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems.
“The delivery will meet the shipyard’s schedule for the installation of critical components onto the first Columbia-class submarine currently under construction, and it will provide the manufacturing template for these structures in follow-on ships of this class,” added Forney.
GA-EMS conducts engineering work on structural hardware at its facilities in Tupelo, Mississippi, and San Diego, and will perform delivery in early 2023.
