General Dynamics’ (NYSE: GD) mission systems business will continue to produce, test and deliver digital modular radios to the U.S. Navy under a potential two-year, $49.9 million contract modification.
The modification brings the ceiling amount of the previously awarded contract to approximately $235.9 million and includes the provision of High Frequency Distribution Amplifier Group components and engineering support services, General Dynamics Mission Systems said Friday.
AN/USC-61(C) DMR is a software-defined radio that can support data and voice satellite communication networks, single channel ground and airborne radio systems and Mobile User Objective System waveforms, among others. The system is certified by the National Security Agency to transmit classified data at the Type 1 level.
Stan Kordana, vice president of surface systems at GDMS, said the contract modification is a testament to the company’s software-defined architecture and that GDMS is expecting to deliver its 1,0000th DMR radio to soldiers on the Navy’s fleet of submarines and surface vessels in the next few months.
The company will perform work in Scottsdale, Arizona, through April 2024.
