GDMS Lands $106M MUOS Ground Segment Sustainment Task Order

  • GDMS was awarded a MUOS sustainment task order
  • The award covers ground segment modernization and lifecycle support activities
  • The contract continues GDMS’ long-running role supporting military satellite communications

General Dynamics Mission Systems has secured a $106 million task order from Space Systems Command to continue sustainment and modernization work on the ground segment of the Mobile User Objective System, or MUOS, the military’s narrowband satellite communications system.

The Department of War said Friday the task order carries a base and option value of $294.9 million and could extend work through May 2031.

The award was issued on a sole-source basis under a single-award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract vehicle.GDMS Lands $106M MUOS Ground Segment Sustainment Task Order

What Work Will GDMS Perform Under the MUOS Task Order?

Under the contract, GDMS will provide baseline sustainment and obsolescence support for the MUOS ground segment. MUOS, operated by the U.S. Space Force, provides secure, smartphone-like voice, data and video capabilities to mobile forces worldwide.

Work will be performed in Scottsdale, Arizona.

At the time of the award, SSC obligated $16.6 million in fiscal 2025 procurement funds and $1.7 million in fiscal 2026 operations and maintenance funding.

How Does the Award Build on Recent MUOS Work?

The latest task order follows another MUOS-related award issued to GDMS in April.

SSC awarded the company a $28.4 million cost-plus-fixed-fee task order to provide integrated logistics, sustainment and modernization support for the system’s ground segment. That contract runs through April 2027 and includes an initial obligation of $10 million in fiscal 2026 operations and maintenance funding.

What Is General Dynamics’ History Supporting MUOS?

General Dynamics has supported the MUOS program for years.

In 2019, the Navy awarded GDMS a potential $731.9 million contract to provide sustainment services for MUOS ground infrastructure through November 2029. The contract covered support for the network’s globally distributed ground stations used to manage and operate in-orbit satellites.

The MUOS ground segment includes sites in the United States, Australia and Italy that provide command, control and communications support for the satellite system.
