Goldfein retired from the Air Force in October with the rank of general after 37 years of service and will provide advice to the Blackstone leadership on investment and strategic matters, the company said Thursday.
He will also support the firm’s initiative to recruit military veterans to work for Blackstone, its portfolio companies or nonprofit partners.
As USAF’s 21st chief of staff, Godlfein managed a global workforce of 693K military and civilian personnel and a $168B annual budget for the service branch. His career also includes time as director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and as commander of U.S. Air Forces Central Command.
He serves as a senior fellow at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, a board member at the Air Force Association and a senior mentor for new general and flag officers at the National Defense University and on the Board of the Air Force Association.
Blackstone noted it seeks to hire 100K veterans and family members by 2022 through the Blackstone Veterans Initiative. According to the investment company, approximately 80K veterans and their spouses secured employment via the program since 2013.
