Steven Walker
Steven Walker, former director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and a 2019 Wash100 awardee, will assume the positions of vice president and chief technology officer at Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) beginning on Monday, SpaceNews reported Thursday.
The three-decade civil service veteran will succeed Keoki Jackson, who will transition to new roles as chief engineer and VP of engineering and program operations at the Bethesda, Md.-based company.
Walker will oversee Lockheed’s independent research-and-development activities and its efforts to coordinate with international partners as well as the science and technology sector.
Before his promotion as DARPA director in 2017, Walker served as the agency’s deputy director and program manager for its tactical technology office.
He previously engineering leadership roles at the Air Force Research Laboratory and served as deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Air Force, where he led the development of the service's investment strategy for its $2B annual S&T initiative.
Walker is a recipient of the Presidential Rank Award and Department of Defense civilian service medals.
