Former Army Chief of Staff Jim McConville Named Operating Partner at AE Industrial Partners

Jim McConville, a retired U.S. Army general who worked as the service branch’s 40th chief of staff, has joined private equity firm AE Industrial Partners as an operating partner.

In this capacity, he will work with AEI’s portfolio companies and assess investment opportunities across the government services and defense sector.

David Rowe, managing partner of AEI, said in a statement published Tuesday McConville’s insight and experience in the defense and government services sector will help the private equity firm’s portfolio companies evaluate opportunities and improve their operations.

“Addressing the increasingly complex global threats we face requires the development of new technologies, and I believe strongly that private equity has a critical role to play in that response,” McConville said.

As the Army’s chief of staff, McConville oversaw the addition of weapons system and launch of talent management system and led other modernization efforts. In this role, he managed a budget of $185 billion and 1.2 million personnel and helped lead force deployment and COVID-19 response efforts.

His more than 40 years of military service included time as the Army’s vice chief of staff and commanding general of the service’s 101st Airborne Division.

McConville, an Army master aviator, became a National Security Fellow at Harvard University in 2002.
