Paul Battaglia, vice president of public sector at Federated Wireless, said 5G has become a critical technology for warfighters, border patrol, law enforcement and other frontline government agencies because it enables cloud-based applications that back the adoption of large datasets, artificial intelligence, sensors and drones.
In an article published on Carahsoft.com, Battaglia wrote that 5G helps agencies speed up the replacement of legacy information technology systems by facilitating automation and rapid delivery of software updates.
He discussed how 5G-enabled technologies revolutionize supply chain management, surveillance, battlefield surgery and flight line operations, among other areas, and cited the implementation of a 5G network at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Georgia.
Battaglia explained how private 5G networks backed by zero trust provide robust security over data and support military bases located in areas lacking cellular carriers.
