A federal judge on Thursday issued a preliminary injunction directing the Department of Defense to stop work on the potential 10-year, $10B Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure cloud computing contract awarded to Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) in October, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
The ruling of U.S. Court of Federal Claims Judge Patricia Campbell-Smith was in response to a lawsuit filed by Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) in November.
DoD expressed disappointment with the ruling saying the litigation has delayed the department’s modernization strategy. “However, we are confident in our award of the JEDI cloud contract to Microsoft and remain focused on getting this critical capability into the hands of our warfighters as quickly and efficiently as possible,” the Pentagon added.
“While we are disappointed with the additional delay we believe that we will ultimately be able to move forward with the work to make sure those who serve our country can access the new technology they urgently require,” said Frank Shaw, a spokesman for Microsoft.
