The Center for Advanced Aviation System Development FFRDC advises and offers technical expertise to help the FAA improve the national airspace system’s security, safety and efficiency, Mitre said Monday.
The nonprofit organization has been supporting the FAA for more than six decades and operated CAASD since 1990.
Jason Providakes, president and CEO of Mitre and a 2022 Wash100 Award winner, said Mitre is honored to continue its partnership with the FAA as an FFRDC operator and is committed to delivering technical capabilities to ensure the global transportation system’s resiliency.
Gregg Leone, a MITRE vice president and CAASD director, said CAASD creates concepts, technology applications and strategies to enable the FAA to introduce operational changes to enhance the airspace system’s effectiveness and capacity.
“Our expanded mission will focus on defining the systems and operations of the future to achieve global harmonization and next-level safety. This new contract allows us to expand our work across the entire domain of transportation, from surface to space,” Leone added.
