Express Scripts has secured a potential multi-year $4.3 billion contract to help the Defense Health Agency manage pharmacy benefit-related activities across all 50 states; Washington, D.C; Guam; Puerto Rico; and the Virgin Islands.
The company will provide management services in support of the TRICARE Pharmacy Benefit Program, which delivers prescription drugs to beneficiaries through mail orders or both network and non-network retail pharmacies, the Department of Defense said Thursday.
The contract requires Express Scripts to conduct benefit management functions, which include claims adjudication, clinical services, reimbursement processing, clinical services and pharmacy support. The services are meant to support military medical facilities, specialty pharmaceuticals, pharmacies and beneficiaries.
Work will run for a 15-month base period and may continue for up to seven more years if all options are exercised.
DHA will use $23.6 million in fiscal 2021 operations and maintenance funds to finance work under the contract’s base period.
