John Slattery, president and CEO of the commercial aviation business at Embraer, has been appointed to the same dual-role at General Electric’s (NYSE: GE) aviation unit in a move slated to take effect July 13.
He will succeed four-decade GE veteran David Joyce, who will remain with the aviation business until Dec. 31 as non-executive chair, the company said Monday.
Joyce will also continue to serve as the conglomerate's vice chair and research business adviser through the end of the year, then he will transition to a strategic advisory role at GE Aviation by 2021.
Slattery will fully assume his new responsibilities on Sept. 1 in order to ensure a smooth transition and lead the organization that manufactures avionics, electric power systems and jet engines for military and commercial customers.
He joined Embraer in 2011 and previously held financial leadership roles in the aerospace sector for 15 years.
