Mitre has been selected by the Department of Transportation to operate a prototype virtual application built to help developers test cooperative driving automation systems.
The Federal Highway Administration created the Virtual Open Innovation Collaborative Environment for Safety platform for multiple entities to participate simultaneously in synthetic test environments of automated vehicle safety tools, the nonprofit research organization said Thursday.
Platform users can test CDA with human interaction and also between physical and simulated components.
Kerry Buckley, vice president of Mitre’s Center for Advanced Aviation System Development, said that VOICES offers an interoperability network for government, private sector and academic stakeholders.
As the sole operator of VOICES, the nonprofit will lead the definition, development and continuous enhancement of the platform.
The organization will also be responsible for setting up a team of system users, creating new technology and demonstrating the product in the next 12 months.
