The Department of Energy is soliciting proposals for a potential 10-year, $3.4 billion indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quality contract vehicle for the acquisition of low-enriched uranium from domestic commercial sources.
DOE said Thursday that the procurement effort, partly funded by the President’s Investing in America agenda, seeks to diversify the LEU market and ensure a reliable supply of commercial nuclear fuel to support the Biden administration’s clean energy and energy security goals.
Domestic LEU sources may include new enrichment facilities or projects that aim to boost existing enrichment capacity.
DOE plans to sell the LEU to utilities operating U.S. reactors to help generate clean energy and reduce reliance on Russian imports.
Interested parties have until Aug. 26 to submit proposals.
