The Department of Defense has teamed up with Red Hat to help enhance flight scheduling for the aircrews of the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps.
A project team composed of members from the Defense Innovation Unit and the three services worked with the company™s open source and DevOps residency program – Red Hat Open Innovation Labs “ through human-centered design engagement to identify the problem facing end users and implement Agile, DevOps and lean product development practices in order to build a digital œPuckboard application, Red Hat said Tuesday.
The digital Puckboard app, which is in the development phase, is designed to help the military branches improve the management of flight training and squadron operations. The services also plan to integrate machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities into the app.
Michael Walker, global senior director of Red Hat Open Innovation Labs, said application development for flight scheduling and other mission-critical processes requires teams to understand and address the problem. Walker added that the collaboration with Red Hat has helped the project team gain the technological skills and development processes needed to develop the app.
