Mitre has extended its agreement with the Department of Homeland Security to manage a federally funded research and development center focused on systems engineering subject areas.
The nonprofit company will continue operating the Homeland Security Systems Engineering and Development Institute through a sponsorship renewal from DHS’ science and technology directorate, the department said Wednesday.
Focus areas for the HSSEDI include program development, experimentation, cyber, communications, information technology functions and test and evaluation.
Mitre has helped run the facility over an incremental period of five years since 2009 and received task orders to support multiple federal projects through the facility via an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract.
HSSEDI was established through the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to serve as DHS’ primary resource for systems engineering R&D initiatives to address department-wide requirements.
