Steve Harris, senior vice president and general manager of Dell EMC™s federal business, has said government agencies seeking to transform their information technology infrastructure should determine services and applications that meet their mission-critical needs as well as develop a multi-year strategic plan.
Harris wrote that such a plan would help agencies change œhow they host the highest priority applications and workloads while adjusting the resources devoted to less critical IT.
Agencies should also perform an inventory of their current investments and determine the technical debt associated with legacy IT, he said.
œThe ongoing nature of digital transformation requires a workload-by-workload analysis of how an agency is going to deliver capabilities to its end users, he noted.
This analysis calls for agencies to determine the right approach to manage each workload by having a œkeen understanding of a multi-cloud strategy, added Harris, a 2018 Wash100 recipient.
Harris noted that agencies should transform the way employees engage with technological platforms in order to improve their cybersecurity posture and establish their IT infrastructure based on a secure-by-design method in which the lessons learned during development and testing phases are integrated into the design of strategic plans and capabilities.
