ViaSat (Nasdaq: VSAT) and Data Link Solutions have received contract modifications from the U.S. Navy to continue to supply and retrofit Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio Systems terminals.
DLS, a joint venture of BAE Systems and Collins Aerospace, and ViaSat will produce and perform upgrades on 3,370 additional MIDS JTRS terminals for F-22 Falcon fighter aircraft in compliance with the Joint Requirements Oversight Council memorandum, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.
The MIDS JTRS terminal is a four-channel, software-defined radio system designed to collect, transmit and secure broadband data and voice across ground, maritime and aerial platforms.
DLS will perform work in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Wayne, N.J., through June 2020 under the $235.6 million modification, which increases the contract’s ceiling value to $1.2 billion.
ViaSat saw its contract value rise to $789 million with the $90.8 million modification and will carry out work through May 2020 in Carlsbad, Calif.
Naval Information Warfare System Command awarded the modifications in support of the Navy, U.S. Air Force, NATO member countries and other allies under the foreign military sales program. The Navy originally awarded the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contracts to ViaSat and DLS in 2015.
